Israel’s Defense Force Delivers DEATH BLOW To PIJ Insurgents
(TruthandLiberty.com) – Israel and Palestinian terrorists have engaged in several battles over the last few weeks. The escalation in tensions between the Israeli military and militants in the Gaza Strip is the largest since May 2021, when 200 Palestinians and a dozen Israelis died. From Friday, August 5, through Saturday, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) launched 600 rockets and artillery fire into the country. In response, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) killed two top PIJ commanders.
On Friday, an airstrike killed Yayseer Jabari, the PIJ’s leader in northern Gaza. Saturday, Palestinian officials acknowledged that IDF airstrikes killed Khaled Mansour, the terrorist group’s southern leader. According to The Times of Israel, Maj. Gen. Oded Basiuk said he believed the military eliminated the top leaders of the terrorist group.
Basiuk told the media that the organization launched anti-tank guided missiles at civilians and military personnel. He said the objective was to terminate Jabari and Mansour. Officials said the response was necessary after the PIJ refused to halt its plans to target Israeli citizens at the border. The Gaza health ministry said 24 people, including six children, died in the attack. Israeli officials deny responsibility for the deaths of any civilians or children.
To bolster security, the IDF approved calling up 25,000 reservists to active duty on the Gaza border in the event escalations increase. Iran reportedly funds the PIJ. Analysts say the region risks breaking into full-scale war if officials fail to rein in the attacks.
