(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Wednesday, former VP Pence officially launched his presidential campaign for 2024 and did not hesitate to attack former President Donald Trump, criticizing his former boss for his actions after the 2020 presidential election.
Pence specifically stated that Trump had selected to put himself above the country’s Constitution and for that reason, he shouldn’t ever be allowed to be the President of The U.S. again. Trump had previously tried to get Pence to help him overturn the 2020 presidential election results by not certifying the electoral votes. Pence’s refusal and Trump’s insistence eventually led to a mob of Trump supporters storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to block the certification of Electoral College votes.
Pence added that Trump in 2016 had “promised to govern as a conservative” and during their time in office together they had done that, but that Trump currently is not making any such promises.
While the Republican primary field keeps growing, Trump has managed to lead all of the primary polls. However, Pence’s decision to join the field is historic as a candidate has not campaigned against their former running mate since the late VP John Nance Garner had tried to unsuccessfully go up against then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1940 election.
Pence in his speech also pointed out that he had been proud to stand next to Trump during the administration, and he was proud of the things that they had accomplished, but that these elections were about the future and it was time for a change in leadership.
