(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Sunday, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Democrat-California) during an appearance on MSNBC’s argued that it was “shameful” of Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas to be so “cavalier” about their ethics violations.
As she argued, the Supreme Court currently has the opportunity to set up certain ethics rules for themselves. She claimed that this is also what the chief justice claimed, and yet currently there was no action being taken.
She added that despite this, she does “give credit to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.),” for detailing the actions that need to be taken in order for the Supreme Court to have integrity. She proceeded to argue that it was shameful of Thomas and Alito to be “so cavalier about their violations.”
When asked specifically about what reforms should be implemented, Pelosi added that term limits for justices should be implemented and that ethics rules should be established and followed. These comments come at a time when the Supreme Court has come under fire over the alleged ethical misconduct of the two conservative justices. Last week, Alito had admitted in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that he had accepted a private plane ride by billionaire hedge fund owner Paul Singer, who is a GOP donor.
ProPublica recently put out a report on Thomas in which they noted that for years the justice had been accepting vacations from Harlan Crow, a billionaire who has donated millions to conservative causes. Thomas has also taken rides on Crow’s private jet and yacht.
