Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) slammed the “red carpet” that was rolled out for former President Trump’s arraignment in Manhattan earlier this month, arguing that others face worse conditions for “doing far less.”

In an interview with “The Daily Show” that aired on Monday, Ocasio-Cortez, whose district includes Rikers Island stated that daily she sees people being treated worse than Trump was for lesser crimes. She added that for Trump it appeared as if a “red carpet” got rolled out.

Earlier this month, during his arraignment Trump was met by crowds of protesters, law enforcement protection officers, and widespread media coverage. Following his indictment he became the first U.S. President, sitting or former, to have faced criminal charges. There were 34 felony counts of falsifying business records brought forth against Trump. During his arraignment, Trump was not required to take a mugshot or be handcuffed, and he entered the courthouse through a side entrance.

Ocasio-Cortez praised how Trump was treated by the people in New York, stating that they “treated him like a Florida Man.” She added that Trump no longer belongs to New York, or “Queens anymore.”

Following his indictment, Trump, who lives in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, claimed that during his indictment people at the courthouse were crying that they had to arrest him. During an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Trump revealed that there were people crying.

Ocasio-Cortez said that while some like Reps. George Santos (R-N.Y.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) might have been crying if she was not.
