Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to say that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott should consider retiring after his operation for transporting dozens of migrants from Texas to Washington, D.C., Chicago, and New York.
Ocasio-Cortez has criticized Abbott for Texas struggling with migrants, which has led to the bussing operations. He noted that perhaps the state’s struggles are an effect of the governor’s inability to run his state and thus, he should potentially consider other types of employment.
In her comments, Ocasio-Cortez also recalled the severe winter storms of February 2021, when it was others who had to step up and help Texans as Abbot had “left them cold and hungry during the freeze.” She also added that they would welcome those families too as there is a lot that they can offer.
Finally, she concluded in her tweet that if the job is such a struggle for Abbott, then he should consider a different career. The overall thread was a response to a tweet by Gov. Abbott regarding two more Texas buses that would be taking migrants to the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.
In his tweet, Abbot defended his operation and has stood up against the senior Biden administration officials, including vice President Kamala Harris, who insist that the border is “secure” and that there are no migration crises.
On Thursday morning, more than 100 migrants were transported to Washington, D.C. The people on the bus had come from an array of countries including Venezuela, Uruguay, Colombia, and Mexico.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also transported two planes of migrants a day earlier. They were left in Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
President Biden has said that all of these operations are “political stunts” that use migrants as “props.”
