NYC Tries to Snub Giuliani Family After All They've Done for the City

(TruthandLiberty.com) – After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, then-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani received high praise for his handling of the situation. Sadly, memories fade, and it appears the love for the past mayor is waning after a snub in a local election.

Giuliani’s son, Andrew, wants to follow in his father’s political footsteps with his bid to become the governor of New York, and the elder Giuliani is not happy with the way the Republican Party has treated him. The former mayor said he feels the GOP isn’t supporting his son in Staten Island, where many locals have thrown their support behind Representative Lee Zeldin (R-Long Island).

Zeldin also claimed the Staten Island and New York Republican Parties’ endorsements. Additionally, he picked up the support of Staten Island Representative Nicole Malliotakis and Assemblymen Mike Reilly and Mike Tannousis.

Giuliani voiced disappointment Malliotakis decided not to back his son after the former mayor assisted her in fundraising. He said it’s difficult to support people who won’t even give the young politician a chance. After all Guiliani did for New York City, the sudden lack of respect for him and his family had to sting.

Despite the disappointment, the younger Giuliani is leading the polls over Zeldin, and he has name recognition on his side. He also received praise from the Staten Island GOP, although officials admitted they backed Zeldin extremely early in the race because they felt they had to act quickly to promote a Republican in the blue state.
