(TruthandLiberty.com) – “Defund the police” was a call from Progressives in the Democratic party in 2020 after the death of George Floyd. Despite the Left’s best efforts, many Moderates have abandoned the idea, and some have even increased police funding. A prominent congresswoman attempted to revive the call to defund the police, but none other than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ultimately shot down the move.
Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) recently tried to reignite the flame of defunding the police and mentioned the pressure she feels from her fellow Democrats to change her tone. Pelosi made it clear that Bush speaks alone.
"Community safety, protect and defend in every way, is our oath of office," the Speaker of the House said on Sunday. https://t.co/J7o8vbxtqN

During her interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week,” on Sunday, February 13, Pelosi respectfully asserted Bush isn’t the voice of the Democratic party, and they each took an oath of office to protect and defend the nation in every way. Pelosi echoed, “Defund the police is dead,” quoting Ritchie Torres (D-NY).
It appears Moderate Democrats are attempting to distance themselves from their Progressive colleagues, who could be a problem for the party itself ahead of the already difficult midterm elections. Pelosi and other Democrats seemed to love the movement once. They’ve changed their tune now that it’s an issue — likely to pander for votes, win their elections and keep a majority in both chambers of Congress.
