Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has condemned the Justice Department’s handling of the Mar-a-Lago estate FBI raid but has also blasted the former President over the removal of documents from the White House.
Pompeo during a private event held by the Israel Heritage Foundation on Sunday was called to answer questions on what President Trump has been doing since he left office.
To this question, Pompeo answered humorously that Trump was down in Mar-a-Lago witnessing the FBI raid on his home. He also continued by calling the entire incident “outrageous”.
That these documents should have never been removed from the White House and that classified information should always be kept in the appropriate location. However, for the White House to be raiding the home of Trump, a former President was “outrageous”. He also added that the Department of Justice should not be politicized and that this type of action goes against the rule of law in the United States.
These comments came the day after Trump returned to his Mar-a-Lago estate after the warranted search on Aug. 8. Trump has also taken to calling it a “Raid and Break-in of my home.” He has also said that the FBI was being controlled by the radical left about the incident.
During their raid of the Mar-a-Lago estate, the FBI seized more than 11,000 documents. Many of them are also considered to belong to the highest classification levels. The search was part of an investigation into whether Trump had violated the Espionage Act.
Following a judge’s decision, the document is no longer being reviewed by the Department of Justice but rather by a special master who is in charge of reviewing the seized documents.
