(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Wednesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) blasted Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for stating that the Freedom Caucus members were collaborating with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) to have him refused.
Gaetz, who has always opposed McCarthy’s leadership and refused to vote for the House Speaker during the January Speakership vote, threatened last week to call for McCarthy’s removal. In a tweet responding to Swalwell, he had also questioned how much support he should expect to receive from the Democrats when trying to expel McCarthy. However, McCarthy claimed that all of these attempts by Gaetz were actually connected to an ethics complaint.
He added that regardless of the threats against him, he would not try to influence any independent committee, such as the ethics committee, or have Swalwell be allowed back to the intel committee.
The House Ethics Committee is currently investigating the allegations about Gaetz doing drugs and engaging in sexual misconduct. In February the Department of Justice stated that they would not be prosecuting Gaetz on sex trafficking allegations.
Gaetz has argued that the investigation against him was motivating and that he was the “most investigated” person in Congress. He proceeded to argue that McCarthy was “lying like a dead dog” and that throughout his time he had never interfered in an ethics case. He added that the claims by McCarthy that he wanted to receive special treatment were a complete lie from someone who was desperately trying to stay in power.
Gaetz recently stated that if an impeachment inquiry is not launched against President Biden then he would be calling for McCarthy to be removed.
