The Democrats are trying to tie Rep. Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) who recently noted that had she planned the Jan. 6, Capitol attack then the rioters would have had firearms.
Greene has in the past been an important conservative ally to McCarthy who is currently trying to secure enough votes to win the floor vote that would enable him to become the House Speaker in January.
Following Greene’s recent comments, the Democrats were quick to note how McCarthy has often said that once he becomes the House Speaker, he would ensure that Greene was restored to her committee positions.
Regarding this, the Democratic National Committee recently tweeted that Marjorie Taylor Greene said that she would have armed the rioters if she had been in control of the insurrection. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) similarly said that both McCarthy and the Republican conference needed to make it clear which side of the insurrection they were on, “the side of the officers and the Constitution, or the side of Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump?”
Greene’s original comments about the rioters being armed came during a gala on Saturday for the New York Young Republicans Club. In fact, this was her response to those who have speculated that she and former Trump adviser Stephen Bannon had been the ones to plan the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
