( – The Washington Post editorial board has cautioned that the efforts of President Joe Biden to beat former President Trump in November’s general election could depend on whether or not he follows the “wish lists” of left-leaning groups.

On Saturday the board noted that Trump could win the rematch today but that Biden had eight months to improve his odds. He then pointed out that no narratives would shift in his favor by playing into the priorities of left-leaning groups and every Cabinet agency.

This assessment was made while the board discussed the upcoming State of the Union address and warned that Biden should not “squander” his appearance in front of the largest audience of the year by focusing on “another box-checking laundry list” for over an hour.

The left-leaning news outlet specifically suggested that Biden should instead promise to take executive action in order to secure the border. It added that should Biden fail to address the border crisis then he would lose in the upcoming election.

The editorial board pointed out that there were valid criticisms against the GOP following the killing of the bipartisan border deal. This is something that Biden had done on Thursday during his visit to a border town in Texas. However, it added that this was insufficient and that he needed to point out that securing the border was a key responsibility of the federal government and about the executive action he would take if Congress failed to take action.
