Liz Cheney Taunts Republicans Again

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said on Tuesday that her work, as part of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack, is the most important thing she has ever done in her professional life. She also added that she is proud of the work she and her fellow members of the committee have completed to continue moving democracy forward.

This was all noted by Cheney during a Harvard University event. Before becoming the House seat representative for Wyoming’s largest district, Cheney had been the deputy assistant secretary of State, and had also previously held the role of principal deputy assistant secretary of State for the Middle East. Cheney additionally spent a lot of time practicing law throughout her career.

These comments were in response to the recent questions about whether the congressional investigation was the correct approach for the Capitol attack, or if a 9/11-style commission would have been more appropriate. Initially, lawmakers had wanted to create an outside bipartisan commission, similar to the 9/11 investigation, however, Republicans stopped that from happening.

Following that, the congressional select committee was created. The panel has spent the last year having a series of public hearings and setting the framework for the committee’s findings.

The committee has so far placed former President Trump at the center of a conspiracy designed for him to retain power after the 2020 election.

Lawmakers on the panel have now subpoenaed Trump to testify under oath. Following this decision, Trump published a 14-page response questioning the committee’s position. From his response, whether he will comply with the subpoena is unclear.
