(TruthAndLiberty.com) – House of Representatives members laughed following Rep. Matt Gaetz’s decision to file a motion to vacate Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the Speakership. When filing Gaetz had claimed that was becoming clear that McCarthy was not representing Republican interests.

Gaetz previously slammed McCarthy for collaborating with the Democrats in order to avoid a possible government shutdown last week. The deal passed through both the House and Senate with bipartisan support on Saturday.

On Monday Gaetz filed the motion to vacate which requires that the House has to hold a vote on whether or not McCarthy should be allowed to continue being the House Speaker. As the Republicans currently have a slim majority in the House, McCarthy’s future as Speaker could fall into the hands of the House Democratic minority.

Gaetz and McCarthy have been in a spat for months as Gaetz had originally attempted to block McCarthy from becoming the House Speaker in January. In order for McCarthy to be able to get the required support for his Speakership bid he conceded to only one representative being required to agree in order for a motion to vacate to be brought forward. This concession is one that Gaetz is now taking advantage of.

On Monday, the footage of Gaetz filing his motion was broadcast on C-Span, and in it several representatives could be seen laughing. The video was also shared on x, formerly known as Twitter, by the Acyn account and there it has received more than 150,000 views. The post included a caption about the laughter that could be heard from the other representatives as the motion was filed.
