Lawmaker Explores Invoking 25th Amendment Amid Debacle in Afghanistan

(TruthandLiberty.com) – During the Trump administration, Democrats regularly called on Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Donald Trump from office. It’s 2021, and America is eight months into the Biden administration. In the wake of the ongoing self-inflicted Afghanistan fiasco, some officials are calling for Biden to resign immediately.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) argues that Biden lost credibility and standing among the American people and international leaders over his handling of Afghanistan. The Senator and potential 2024 presidential candidate questioned whether Biden’s cabinet should remove him from office using the 25th Amendment. Scott openly wondered if Biden is fit to discharge his constitutional duties. The call for removal came after Trump’s declaration that Biden should resign in the wake of the botched withdrawal.

It’s unlikely at the moment that Democrats will go that far. However, if they sense Biden has become too big of a political liability, one never knows what could happen. The Constitution provides the mechanism to remove a sitting president by two-thirds of both the House and Senate votes.

If Congress removes President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris will ascend to the presidency. Supposedly, Harris refused to address the nation about Afghanistan on Sunday evening. On Monday, the vice-president non-jokingly brought up the idea of invoking the 25th Amendment.

It’s an ever-changing situation, so stay tuned!
