(TruthAndLiberty.com) – In a recent interview, Vice President Kamala Harris stated that she is prepared to take on the presidential role if required by the Constitution, amidst speculations about President Biden’s health and age.
Currently at 80 and nearing 81, Biden holds the title of the oldest U.S. president ever. If re-elected in 2024, he would begin his second term at 82 and finish at 86. Harris labeled discussions about her potentially taking on the presidency as “speculative”, but affirmed her readiness.
Speaking to The Associated Press in Jakarta during a regional meeting, she remarked, “Every vice president is fully aware of the potential need to assume the role of president.” She further added, “I am no exception.”
Regarding concerns about Biden’s age, Harris defended him, even though a significant portion of the public sees his age as a concern. A recent poll found that 77% of Americans believe Biden might be too old for another term.
Some opponents, such as former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, suggest that a vote for Biden is essentially a vote for Harris. Harris, however, stressed her observations of Biden’s capabilities daily in the Oval Office. She pointed out his knack for understanding and navigating intricate issues to make informed decisions for the U.S.
Harris had previously vied for the presidential seat in 2020 but stepped down post the Democratic primary debates. She ended up securing fewer delegate supports than some other Democratic contenders.
Furthermore, Harris, leaning on her prosecutor background, opined that former President Trump should face legal consequences for his alleged involvement in the Capitol protests on Jan 6, 2021, and attempts to dispute the 2020 election results.
Trump, who leads in the 2024 Republican presidential candidate polls, faces multiple federal charges, including alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Biden and Harris both view him as a potential risk to the country’s democratic framework.
“Democracies can be vulnerable,” Harris mentioned, “Their strength is determined by our dedication to uphold them.”
Currently, Harris is the representative for the U.S. at an Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit. While the president’s non-attendance was noted, the commitment of the U.S. to the region was underscored both by the White House and by Harris.
Despite her significant roles, Harris’ approval ratings have stayed relatively low. An NBC News poll revealed that she holds the lowest approval ratings for a vice president in the poll’s history. Only 32% of polled voters hold a favorable view of her.
