Manchin Stands Up To The Leftist Again
(TruthandLiberty.com) – In 2021, Congressional Democrats fought to pass President Joe Biden’s $3.5 trillion “Build Back Better” proposal into law. For nearly six months, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) expressed reservations about the far-left agenda as the price tag proposal dropped to under $2 trillion. He argued late in the summer and through the fall that inflation was rising and it might not be wise to inject trillions more dollars into the economy. Days before Christmas, he killed the bill in the evenly divided Senate.
On Wednesday, July 13, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported inflation broke another 40-year record, rising 9.1% in June. Soon after, Manchin released a statement acknowledging America’s pain and shooting down any idea that he would support additional stimulus money desired by Democrats. He said additional government spending would provide “more fuel to this inflation fire.” Over the last month, Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) began discussing a smaller partisan package. Still, it appears it may not go anywhere either over inflation concerns.
Manchin added that the skyrocketing costs in America currently are a “clear and present danger.” He said that leaders in Washington, DC, ignored his concerns. The West Virginia Senator rejected any idea he would agree to more government money to reduce health insurance premiums, support environmental plans, or raise the cap on state and local deductions. Manchin might back reducing prescription drug prices and raising taxes on the rich.
