(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Following his first presidential debate appearance, President Joe Biden was publicly praised by his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, despite a performance that drew significant criticism.
At the debate’s after-party, which had a live audience, Jill Biden joined her husband on stage, celebrating his participation and responses to the moderators’ questions.
“Joe, you did such a great job! You answered every question, you knew all the facts!” Jill Biden exclaimed, with Joe Biden smiling beside her.
Turning to the audience, she continued, “And let me ask the crowd, what did Trump do?” With a dramatic pause, she then shouted, “Lie!” Her enthusiastic support went viral, with many noting her speech sounded like she was praising a child.
Joe Biden’s debate performance faced nearly universal criticism from commentators, who cited his inarticulate speech and unsteady demeanor. Observers pointed out his frequent stammering, long silences, and expressions of intense confusion, prompting even some of his staunchest supporters to suggest he should step down from his re-election campaign.
New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, a long-time supporter of Biden, described the debate as a heartbreaking moment in American presidential campaign politics, revealing that Biden, though a good man and president, should not seek re-election.
CNN commentator Van Jones, who had been overjoyed at Biden’s 2020 victory, also expressed his concern. “I love that guy as a good man. He loves his country. He’s doing the best that he can. But he had a test to meet tonight, to restore confidence in the country and his base, and he failed to do that,” Jones said. “And I think there are many people who will want to see him consider taking a different course now.”
