January 6th Rioter Ordered to Remain in Prison

(TruthandLiberty.com) – While the judicial system recognizes that Americans are innocent until proven guilty, bad behavior caught on video, combined with past convictions, makes it hard for judges to be lenient. On Tuesday, August 31, Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather said she was considering house arrest for accused January 6 wrongdoer 35-year-old Samuel Lazar while he awaited trial, but new revelations forced her hands.

In July, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that police arrested the Lancaster County, PA man for appearing to spray a chemical irritant on Capitol police officers during the January 6 riot. In the video, Lazar said the police maced protestors and rioters, so he said they maced them back as they overtook the Capitol building. In addition, new evidence arose in early August that the defendant had brandished a firearm after a jury had convicted him of unlawfully purchasing a weapon.

Federal prosecutors also presented the judge with information from Facebook that Lazar had shared a post advocating people execute Democrats as well as Antifa and Black Lives Matter members.

The revelations forced Judge Meriweather to reconsider her initial contemplation. She ordered Lazar to remain in prison until trial. The judge didn’t schedule a hearing date.
