(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Vote.org reported that following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not be seeking reelection in 2024, there were close to 40,000 people who registered to vote within the first 48 hours of the announcement.

According to Vote.org, there were a total of 38,500 voters who registered, making this the largest number of registrations over such a time frame. Out of the new registrations, 83 percent were for people between the ages of 18 and 34.

The organization’s CEO Andrea Hadley argued in her statement that for them to have a healthy democracy all Americans must make sure that their voices are heard at the ballot box. She added that the increase in voter registration is an encouraging sign that the voters are ready to do exactly that.

Vote.org noted that the previous record had been created last September after Taylor Swift had called for voters to register. That had led to 34,000 new voter registrations within 48 hours.

Following Harris’s announcement of her presidential campaign, there has been increased enthusiasm among Generation Z and young Democrats who are supporting her presidential run against former President Donald Trump.

Sunrise Movement, a youth-led climate advocacy group, communications director Stevie O-Hanlon noted that Harris was going to be a game changer in increasing youth voter turnout in the upcoming election.

The Vice President has also received substantial financial support as within the first 24 hours of announcing her presidential campaign, she raised $81 million.
