(TruthAndLiberty.com) – CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten noted that former President Donald Trump appears to be performing better against Vice President Kamala Harris among young voters when compared to his performance against President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Biden had secured the U.S. presidency in 2020 with a 21-point lead among under 35 voters. However, Harris is currently leading in that same demographic by only 9 points.
Enten explained that while Harris might appear to be performing better than President Biden was in his 2024 campaign, her figures do not showcase the normal advantage that the Democratic candidate tends to enjoy. In the 21st century, the Democrats have always had a 20-point lead among young voters in presidential elections.
Enten in his analysis also opposes the idea that Harris’ recent campaign launch is going to increase voter turnout, noting that after Biden’s withdrawal only 39 percent of Democrats have stated that they are motivated to move. Among those under the age of 29, those motivated to vote were at 42 percent, while those not feeling motivated were at 49 percent.
This is despite the prevalent internet memes suggesting Harris’s potential to engage young voters. Enten also pointed out that a new Pew Research study had shown that young voters between the ages of 18 and 34 were now evenly split in identifying as Democrats or Republicans.
Enten emphasized that Harris’s struggle is not due to her unique shortcomings but rather a broader trend affecting Democrats among young voters.
