Greg Gutfeld Closes in on Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity

( – For decades, Fox News has consistently led its cable news competitors. Even within the network, the evening opinion news shows have been competitive despite running away with the ratings compared to CNN and MSNBC shows. In August, the Conservative network boasted 94 of the top 100 cable telecasts. In addition, Fox News dominated with 13 of the top 14 cable news programs in overall viewers and the 25-to-54-year-old demographic.

Perhaps Fox News’ top hosts, Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity, shouldn’t get too comfortable. Greg Gutfeld’s new late-night show, “Gutfeld!,” is nipping at their ankles. Not only is he closing in on Carlson and Hannity as his audience grows, but he also beat all CNN and MSNBC shows. In August, “Gutfeld!” was the number-one-rated show on cable television for the 11:00 p.m. Eastern time slot. He earned 1.7 million total viewers, with 312,000 between 25 and 54 years old.

Gutfeld’s show continues to grow. On Friday, December 3, “Gutfeld!” had 373,000 viewers in the prized 25-to-54-year-old category. That figure only slightly trails Hannity’s 380,000 viewers in the same category. “Tucker Carlson Tonight” boasted 398,000, meanwhile.

While intellectually honest, Gutfeld has a unique way of injecting humor and sarcasm into the news. Apparently, viewers like what they see.
