California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has accused Republican Govs. Ron DeSantis of Florida and Greg Abbott of Texas of not only “morally reprehensible” behavior but also of potentially kidnapping and moving illegal immigrants to other states. This is despite the San Francisco mayor also having his operation for bussing several homeless people outside of the city and state.
On Wednesday according to reports DeSantis sent two planes of illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard. Allegedly the immigrants had been promised that they would be taken to a “sanctuary destination. Abbott on the other hand has been transporting migrants with buses to Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago, since April.
Newsom sent a letter asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to look into whether any laws are being broken by these operations that transport migrants to other states.
During a news conference DeSantis’ argued that the flights were “voluntary” and that Newsom’s letter just showed that Newsom’s brain isn’t functioning properly.
Abbott also criticized Newsom for his comments about kidnappings, saying that all of the migrants being transported had volunteered to move out. Abbott also said that he knows the laws very well and that he had done everything according to federal law.
Regarding Newsom’s transportation program where homeless people are taken out of San Francisco, he has previously made the claims that many of these people are not San
Francisco natives and he is helping them return to their families and friends where they will be far more likely to be able to get back on their feet. In 2019, he in fact said that many of those who participated in his program came from Texas.
