(TruthandLiberty.com) – New York Judge Juan Merchan has received a warning from the Senate GOP that he should not sentence former President Donald Trump to house arrest or imprisonment. They have also stated that he should avoid any sentencing that might impede Trump’s ability to campaign for the Oval Office ahead of November’s election.
Trump could need months to appeal his conviction on the hush money trial, which led to him being found guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business documents. However, legal experts have claimed that they don’t believe that the U.S. Supreme Court would be intervening in order to assist Trump.
This means that it will ultimately most likely be up to Merchan to choose the punishment for Trump, which could range from house arrest to imprisonment. Trump could also be charged with community service or probation.
While legal experts have stated that Merchan had been careful in the way he handled the case, Trump and many of his Republican allies have slammed the judge for the trial. The former President’s sentencing is now scheduled for July 11, four days prior to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
GOP Senators have pointed out that legal experts have noted how unusual it would be for Trump to receive a prison sentence for a class E felony, and that it is most likely that he will continue being free after his sentencing as he waits to appeal the case. However, despite this, they continue to be nervous about what could happen during the sentencing.
