California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) blasted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) presidential bid in an email sent out on Wednesday which linked to President Biden’s campaign fundraising.

In the email which was sent before DeSantis’s official campaign announcement, Newsom stated that DeSantis’s political operation is going to be starting out with more than $100 million and it would be up to everyone coming together in order to stop him from winning the presidential race. He further argued that in Florida freedom is “under attack” with many books being banned, strict abortion bans being implemented, and stricter voter laws.

He added that they would not allow the rest of the U.S. to become Florida and that President Biden was not able to stop both Trump and DeSantis alone.

On Wednesday, DeSantis joined the GOP primary race for the presidential nomination after months of speculation about his joining. In the past few months, he has consistently found himself in the second position with only former President Donald Trump managing to place higher than him in the hypothetical primary polls.

The California and Florida governors have often spared, with Newsom releasing an ad in Florida after DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education Act, dubbed by its opposition the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. In it, he called for Floridians to either fight this bill or to move to California where they could have freedom.

In September, Newsom also challenged DeSantis to a debate following the Florida governor’s decision to fly two planes with immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
