On Thursday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) warned against politicians attacking companies for “political purposes” following the most recent development in the feud between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Disney. Disney has launched a lawsuit against the Florida governor.

In an interview with Fox News Rubia discussed the arrangement that allowed Disney to benefit from “governmental-type powers” claiming that it is a “perfectly legitimate thing.” He added that this feud leads to concerns about the possibility that companies might face retribution for opposing or disagreeing with a state legislature. Rubio added that this is “where it gets problematic in the eyes of some people” as there are certain ideas created about what happens when you oppose the government politically. He added that then you might end up going against “whoever’s in charge, then you may wind up in the crosshairs of the legislature for political purposes to make a statement at you.”

The day before Rubio’s remarks Disney sued DeSantis claiming that his administration was attempting to punish the company for using their right to free speech. The feud between DeSantis and Disney has been going on for over a year. It all started after Disney opposed the state’s Parental Rights in Education Act, dubbed by its critics “Don’t Say Gay,” which prohibits all instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade.

Following Disney’s criticisms, DeSantis took action to increase state control over Disney’s 25,000-acre area which has been self-governed for years.
