On Monday, a federal judge revealed that some of the documents taken during the FBI’s raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home related to the former President’s medical records, accounting information, and taxes.
U.S. District Judge from the Southern District of Florida Judge Aileen M. Cannon on Monday accepted the request for an independent special master to be reviewing Trump’s records. The judge also said that the Justice Department was obliged to stop reviewing the material for investigative purposes. As part of the order, Cannon also revealed some of the types of documents that were taken during the raid. These included medical documents, tax documents, and accounting information.
According to a source that spoke to Fox News, the FBI seized Trump’s medical records over the past 40 years.
Congressional Democrats have also been trying to acquire Trump’s tax returns since 2019. According to a federal appeals court, the House Ways and Means Committee now has a way to obtain those tax returns directly from the IRS as part of a law that permits individual tax returns to be given to the congressional committee.
Trump can try to block those records from being released if he seeks an emergency intervention from the Supreme Court.
In a statement by Justice Department Spokesman Anthony Coley, he disclosed that the United States would be looking at the possible ways in which to continue the litigation.
Following Cannon’s order, Trump took to his Truth Social media platform to criticize the Justice Department which he called corrupt. He also said that fighting against the DOJ and FBI would require courage.
