(TruthandLiberty.com) – Progressives and liberal lawmakers are pushing Biden to find a worker-friendly Labor Secretary to replace Marty Walsh following his exit. Biden during his presidency has taken a relatively positive approach towards organized labor, having embraced unions and even condemning corporate profiteering off of the backs of the U.S. workforce.

With Walsh leaving his position progressives want to see someone take over who would encourage workers to look for more than just wages and rights. However, some fear that newly ousted Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.) will be chosen to lead the department.

Angelo Greco, a democratic consultant considered the possibility and said that he did not believe it would happen. However, he added that “stranger things have happened” than Maloney being nominated.

Maloney lost in the 2022 midterm election following the redistricting process which also led to progressive Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.). In New York, moderates and progressives are currently divided.

However, despite Maloney’s loss he has managed to rise in national prominence. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) also gave him her support. Many in the Democratic party are privately considering whether it is actually possible that Maloney will be chosen.

One Veteran Democratic strategist however has claimed that no Democrats want Maloney in that position apart from Pelosi. However, Pelosi’s backing might be enough for Biden to consider offering the position to Maloney despite the opposition that progressives have brought forth.
