NYC Mayor Announces Controversial Hire
(TruthandLiberty.com) – When New York City mayoral candidate Eric Adams (D) ran in 2021, he made public safety a central campaign issue. A retired NYPD Captain, he had deep relationships and contacts in the police community. Timothy Pearson, who once served as Adams’ supervisor, was among them. After retiring in 2011, Pearson went to work for the Resorts World New York City in Queens. Apparently, he also had a cozy deal with the mayor, who allegedly skirted ethics and law requirements.
After Pearson had worked for Adams without a salary for five months, the mayor hired him to work for the New York City Economic Development Corporation. The group is a non-profit controlled by the municipality’s top elected official. Still, the arrangement is unique, working around a state law that prohibits local officials from receiving a government salary and a pension from the same entity. The strange deal allows Pearson to collect his $124,000 per year police pension and a salary funded by the city through the non-profit.

Some observers say the arrangement appears ethically questionable and raises objections over conflict of interest. On Thursday, August 11, the New York Post reported the casino’s parent company is pursuing a gambling license. Recently, the state legislature authorized three new permits to turn the resort into a full-blown casino. A board must approve the application, at which time Adams will be able to appoint a voting member.
So, you decide. Is there an appearance of corruption?
