Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) refused to reply to questions on whether he would serve the full four years as governor. These questions came from his Democratic rival, former Rep. Charlie Crist (Fla.) during Monday’s debate.

These questions were heavily pressed by Crist who wanted to point out what DeSantis’ plans for the future are, especially considering the speculations that DeSantis is preparing to announce a bid for the White House.

Crist asked DeSantis straight away if he was going to look into the eyes of the people of Florida and say that he was going to be serving all four years. The question was asked repeatedly, but DeSantis never provided an answer. It is also important to note that the moderator would step in as the candidates are not allowed to direct questions to one another.

DeSantis on the other hand continued with his regular talking points, pointing out the problems in Crist’s association with the Biden administration, and speaking about the importance of conservative policy making.

DeSantis has really grown in popularity over the past couple of years. In part, this rise was caused by his refusal to follow federal public health guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, many have been speculating about his ambitions regarding the 2024 presidential election.
