On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appeared on Fox and Friends where he spoke about his presidential campaign and the reasons why he did not choose to wait until 2028 to launch a campaign for the White House.

Fox host Joey Jones was the first to ask DeSantis why he believed that 2024 was the right time for him to run for the White House. In response, DeSantis stated that it was because everyone knows right now that if he wins the 2024 GOP nomination, he would be able to beat Biden and he would serve for two terms. Serving for eight years would give him the time to “destroy leftism” and throw “woke ideology” away.

A clip from that answer has been shared on Twitter by Ron Fillipkowski, a former federal prosecutor, and has since received more than 6.6 million views. DeSantis’ campaign team also shared the clip on Monday, with that clip amassing more than 650,000 views.

DeSantis pointed out that his popularity in Florida had really risen because of his implementation of hardline anti-“woke” policies. He proceeded to claim that he was the only Republican who is capable of beating President Biden in the presidential election, which is why this is the right time for him to run.

A Public Opinion Strategies survey released May 19 also found that DeSantis and not former President Donald Trump is the Republican candidate who can win in key swing states like Arizona and Georgia against President Biden. Still, Trump remains the favorite in the GOP primary race.
