(TruthandLiberty.com) – In 1967, Florida passed legislation allowing for the development of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which allowed Disney to build Disney World and maintain the property as a self-governing entity. It also exempted the massive company from numerous regulations and a host of taxes and government fees. Those days are now over. In March, company executives weighed in on a Florida parental rights law prohibiting schools from teaching kids in kindergarten through third grade about sexual orientation and transgender issues. The company said it would work to overturn the law and stop political contributions in the state.
Disney’s war against the Republican-dominated state has created a precarious situation for the company. On Wednesday, April 20, the Florida Senate passed the Reedy Creek Improvement District revocation by a vote of 23-16, sending the bill on to the Florida House to decide. On Thursday, April 21, the Florida House passed the bill with a vote of 70-38 over loud Democratic protests, eliminating Disney’s privilege of self-government. On Friday, April 22nd, Governor DeSantis signed the bill into law.
The state is taking on the world’s most magical place. On Thursday, the Florida House of Representatives gave final passage to a bill to dissolve Walt Disney World’s private government.https://t.co/vYRfUzn19p

It’s the latest move by Florida Republicans to counter corporate wokeism. Last week, Governor Ron DeSantis (R) said Florida wouldn’t tolerate such leftist interference. It appears he followed through on his promise. The governor said long gone are the days when corporations could peddle their unchecked pressure campaigns in Florida. He added the state would hold them accountable.
The Left returned fire, calling DeSantis vindictive. Republicans counter, saying the legislation isn’t an anti-Disney bill but rather a fair response that ensures the government doesn’t pick favorites.
