The Capitol police in their own statement also reported the carjacking and noted that the victim was a member of Congress. They further added that there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident and that detectives were attempting to track down the suspects.

Culler who was carjacked at gunpoint is now the second Democrat that has become the victim of crime while in Washington. In November, Rep. Angie Craig had been attacked at her apartment building’s elevator.

The carjacking occurred only two weeks after an open forum was held on Capitol Hill for Congress members where the topic of safety in the area was discussed by law enforcement officials. Many congressional staffers have also faced crimes in the past year.

In March, a staff member of Sen. Rand Paul’s had been attacked while out in public, while in June a staff member of Rep. Brad Finstad was also attacked after the Congressional baseball game.
