(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Thursday, former Democratic Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke blasted President Biden over his handling of asylum policy and argued that the actions taken by the Biden administration were not upholding his 2020 campaign promises.
During a panel at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, ‘Rourke stated that in 2020 he had been inspired by Biden’s immigration message when compared to the border policies during the Trump administration. As he stated Biden in his 2020 campaign had run with a lot of “moral clarity” that children should not be put in cages, and that families should not be separated.
As he noted that message had been inspiring to him as it was all about restoring America’s soul. He added as someone who is living near the border this was a message that he wanted to hear.
However, O’Rourke noted that in some ways Biden had been successful and that his policies had been completely different to those followed by Trump. Still, he argued that Biden was not living up to the promises he had made during his 2020 campaign.
He noted that this was not inspiring and that considering the slaughter that had taken place in El Paso, Biden was failing them.
O’Rourke who had served in Congress for three terms had risen to national prominence during his unsuccessful gubernatorial and presidential campaigns. Recently he has attacked Biden over the asylum policies followed.
Still, many immigration advocates have slammed Biden over his stick-and-carrot approach, after he attempted to create new asylum pathways without the proper authorization which ultimately led to asylum claims becoming harder to make.
