HAUNTING Murder Tally Puts Spotlight On This Mayor
(TruthandLiberty.com) – The violent crime wave hitting Chicago has been ongoing for years, spanning at least the last two mayoral administrations. Despite some of the strictest gun laws in America, over 90% of the homicides committed in the Windy City were gun related. While Democrats and the media blame guns for the problem, they aren’t talking much about the people behind the weapons. Since January 1, Chicago has seen the most significant number of mass shootings in the United States. On Saturday, August 6, and continuing into Sunday, violent perpetrators shot fifty-three people, killing seven.

Clergy in America’s third-largest metropolitan area say people are afraid and traumatized by all the violence. On Sunday, a 43-year-old man was shot while standing on a sidewalk. In another neighborhood, a man was found dead on the street. Mayor Lori Lightfoot has continually blamed guns and gangs as the culprits. Those in the community say the leader oversimplifies their problem and doesn’t have the right prescription for solving it.
According to data The Trace studied, Lightfoot’s narrative is misleading. In a look at 34,000 shootings in the city over the past 10 years, detectives said fewer than three in ten were gang-related. Still, police noted that the data is misleading because the nature of these crime rings makes it hard to know the underlying root of the shooting.
Lightfoot said the solution is for the local government to partner with residents. Yet, to many, this doesn’t appear to be happening.
