(TruthandLiberty.com) – It’s official. Britney Spears is taking a break from social media. The last few months were challenging for the superstar as Spears sought to strip her father’s power over her life. After deleting her Instagram account, the celebrity confirmed she needed some personal time and promised to return shortly.
Spears’ attorney, Mathew Rosengart, confirmed that it was her choice to step back from the public limelight for a short time. In recent days, the superstar received several bits of good news. On Tuesday, September 7, her father, Jamie Spears, filed a petition to end his 13-year-long conservatorship, which currently stands at the center of her struggles to regain control of her life. Then, on Sunday, September 12, she posted her engagement to longtime boyfriend, Sam Asghari.
Is the Good News Linked?
In June, Spears testified in a court hearing that her conservator prevented her from getting married and having children. Under a conservatorship, a conservatee doesn’t have the power to enter into legal arrangements. Accepting a proposal is one thing. Entering into a legally binding marriage is another. Technically, a marriage license would need the approval of the conservators.
So, it would appear the news of Jamie’s petition to end the conservatorship and Spears’ engagement are linked together. However, there is still a process to terminate the conservatorship, and there are no guarantees the court will approve Jamie’s request.
Conservatorship No Longer Needed?
In August, Jamie Spears agreed to step down as his daughter’s conservator. He said he didn’t believe a public wrestle with the pop star over the conservatorship was in her best interest, and he would work to ensure a smooth process for a new conservator. In early September, Mr. Spears appeared to change his mind and take matters one step further.
He stated that Britney’s situation changed, and the conservatorship may no longer be necessary. In his petition, the estranged father added that the court could end the legal control over his daughter without a need for a psychological evaluation and suggested he wanted to honor her wishes.
Britney Spears’ attorney called the stunning reversal a significant victory and exoneration for the superstar. Perhaps all the good news is causing a bit of relief and need for some time away? Who could blame her for some “me time” in light of all the good news?
