(TruthAndLiberty.com) – President Joe Biden announced on Monday a new federal investment for trains on the Northeast Corridor. As Biden noted, the funding of more than $16 billion was going to be used towards 25 different passenger rail projects that would run between Boston and Washington.
Biden was going to head to Bear, Delaware for the announcement. The full announcement is going to take place at the Amtrak Bear Maintenance Shops where many of the trains are being repaired and maintained. The White House has also stated that the investment was going to reduce delays, make the trains run faster, and create more jobs for union members.
The money for this investment is coming from the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law that Biden passed close to two years ago. This is one of the big legislative achievements that Biden has been touting ahead of the 2024 presidential election. As a result of the legislation, Amtrak is going to receive around $66 billion in new investments.
Biden during his 36 years serving as a U.S. Senator had made the trip from Wilmington to Washington daily. He further claimed that throughout his public service career, he has logged over 1 million miles on Amtrak.
As he pointed out, Amtrak stopped being just a way for him to return home to his family, but the engineers and conductors in many ways became his family.
The White House has stated that the Northeast Corridor is the busiest rail corridor in the country with around 800,000 daily trips.
