(TruthAndLiberty.com) – Secret Service agents responsible for the protection of President Joe Biden’s granddaughter had to open fire after three people attempted to break into an unmarked vehicle belonging to the Secret Service in Washington, D.C. The agents are assigned to the protection of Naomi Biden and had been with her on Sunday night in the Georgetown neighborhood where the incident had occurred.

According to an official, on Sunday night they had seen three people trying to break the window of the unoccupied SUV. The official who opted to remain anonymous, stated that no further details regarding the probe into the incident could be shared with the public yet.

The Secret Service in their statement noted that one agent had opened fire which had not struck anyone. The three suspects proceeded to flee in a red car, while the Secret Service sent to the Metropolitan Police a regional bulletin so that they could be on the lookout for the suspects.

On Monday, the Metropolitan Police Department noted that they had launched an investigation into the shooting, as they would do in the case of any police shooting in the nation’s capital. The agency stated that there is an independent investigation that has been launched for this case by the United States Attorney’s Office.

This year there has been a large increase in the number of car thefts and carjackings. According to the police, there have been over 750 carjackings and over 6,000 reported incidents of stolen vehicles this year alone.

Last month, three armed assailants had also carjacked and stolen the car of U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas near the Capitol.
