In light of the recent search of President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property, President Biden has issued a statement blasting the republicans who have attacked the FBI for its search.
While speaking at an event in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Biden spoke about public safety and he vowed to help support law enforcement in all of their efforts, despite the criticism from conservatives who were anti-police when it comes to their treatment of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, and the events at Mar-a-Lago more recently.
He specifically targeted MAGA Republicans in Congress, saying that they shouldn’t claim to support the law when they don’t condemn the attack on the Capitol. He also called “sickening” the attacks on the FBI, and that threatening the life of agents for carrying out their tasks and doing their job according to the law was unacceptable. He also said that in America there is no place for threatening the lives of those in law enforcement.
In his speech, he also said that he is against defunding the police, much like he is against defunding the FBI. This was widely perceived as an attempt to show his support for law enforcement and to change the narrative that Democrats are looking to reduce police funding. Not only that but his line of reasoning brought into question the extent to which conservatives were pro-law enforcement.
Following the recent threats, a security fence was placed outside the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Republicans have heavily criticized the FBI for following through with the search warrant at Mar-a-Lago earlier this month. The investigation showed that Trump may have taken with him classified documents after leaving the White House. The GOP has maintained that the investigation is politically motivated and used as a way of influencing the midterm elections.
