Biden Announces a New Bill

President Joe Biden has announced support for a bill that would codify abortion rights if the Democrats manage to win the majority in the midterms. This is seen as an incentive for voters who want to fight the Republicans and stop them from gaining control in the House of Representatives.

Abortion became a hot topic after the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade on June 24. This decision had protected abortion rights for more than four decades. Following the Supreme Court’s decision, several states issued legislation that blocked abortion access, which made abortion illegal for millions of Americans.

Liberal and independent women voters have greatly opposed this decision and are looking for ways for abortion rights to be protected on both a state and federal level through actual laws. In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision, several voters expressed their support for reproductive rights, which included showing support for the Democrats running in the midterm elections.

In battleground races, Republicans who actively pushed their anti-abortion agenda had to face the fact that most voters were not in support of this position. However, Republicans have argued that their stance is in line with the position that the rest of the world holds.
As a boost to Democrats ahead of the midterm elections Biden held a speech at Washington, D.C.’s Howard Theatre, during which he noted the importance of abortion rights.

He added that the first bill he is going to be sending to the new Congress would include the necessary information so that Roe v. Wade could be codified. He also added that it was up to them to restore the right for women to choose.
