(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Sunday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) argued that the previous day’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was not going to affect President Joe Biden’s chances of winning the Democratic nomination.
In an interview with NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” he had been asked whether the shooting would have an impact on the discussions relating to Biden’s fitness for the Oval Office. In response, Sanders argued that it would not and that he believes that Biden is currently the strongest possible candidate for the Democrats.
Originally, Sanders was going to be giving the interview where he would discuss his recent New York Times op-ed in which he had pushed for the Democrats to stop calling for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. He had described these efforts as a “circular firing squad.”
In his interview remarks, he condemned the assassination attempt which had taken place in Pennsylvania on Saturday during a rally of former President Donald Trump.
Welker, in the interview, had reminded Sanders how in 2017 one of his campaign volunteers had shot Republican Rep. Steve Scalise (La.) at a baseball practice.
In response, Sanders argued that democracy is “not” about radical rhetoric but rather about serious discussion of where the United States is and where it is heading as a nation. He continued by stating that politics should be a bit “boring.”
On Late Saturday, President Joe Biden condemned the shooting arguing that there was no place for such violence in the United States. He had also characterized the assassination attempt as “sick.”
