Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on Tuesday spoke with Judy Woodruff, a journalist, during an event organized by the City Club of Cleveland. During the event, she said that it was “disgraceful” for some Republicans to be making jokes about Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), being attacked while in his San Francisco home.
Cheney added that Paul Pelosi was in the ICU, after having to get surgery for a skull fracture and other injuries caused by the attack, and yet at the same time many in the Republican party were mocking him. She specifically also noted that members of former President Donald Trump’s family had also been joking online about Pelosi being attacked. Cheney said that this is not who the people of America are.
She said this behavior was disgraceful and that people should reject it. She also noted that people should have debates without having to fear violence.
Paul Pelosi, 82, was attacked on Friday night, by a suspect David DePape who broke into the Speaker’s home in San Francisco. DePape was actively searching for Nancy Pelosi when he attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer.
Paul Pelosi was taken to the hospital where he had to undergo surgery for the skull fracture he suffered. He also had multiple injuries in his right arm and hand.
Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former president, retweeted a photo that showed a pair of underwear and a hammer, saying that he got his Paul Pelosi Halloween costume. He then added that if the hammer was replaced with a red feather boa you could also go as Hunter Biden.
