Fox News Digital interviewed people in the streets of Iowa City, Iowa asking whether they believe President Biden should have to face a primary challenger in 2024. Many respondents stated that they believed the President should be challenged in the race for the Democratic nomination.
One student at the University of Iowa stated that Biden should face a challenger, as in the past four years he has not taken enough action to “deserve re-election.” The student added that despite the fact they were a “hardcore Democrat” they were not excited by the current prospect.
A different student stated that everyone deserves to be challenged and that there was no point in having candidates if no one went up against them. He proceeded to note that the challenge would also help bring new ideas into the race.
Others claimed that the reason Biden should have to face a challenger is because of his age. One person specifically noted that there were many questions about Biden’s age and that there were people on both sides of the political spectrum who wanted to see a challenger emerge. He specifically noted that he would like to see someone younger join the race.
This call for younger people to join the race was also echoed by another student, who stated that it is “unprecedented” for the president to be so old. She added that it was time for younger people to take the lead.
However, there were also those who claimed that Biden did not deserve to have to face a primary challenger and pointed out that he has done a great job while in office. One person, in particular, said that he has strengthened the NATO Alliance, managed to keep the country from falling into a recession and has pushed his environmental agenda.
