(TruthAndLiberty.com) – On Sunday former New Jersey governor and current Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie blasted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who has also joined the presidential race, over the new slavery curriculum revealed in Florida, stating that the governor was not showing leadership with his reaction.
In an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Christie pointed out that DeSantis’ responses about not doing it or being involved in the curriculum are not the words that any leader expresses.
DeSantis had responded to Vice President Harris’ criticisms about the Black history education standards that were newly released in Florida, which she referred to as “propaganda.” The guidelines are following Florida’s controversial education law which states that all discussions and subjects regarding race need to be taught in a completely “objective” way and that these classes should in no way try to indoctrinate students into one certain view or ideology.
An example of the points in the guidelines that sparked outrage refers to how teachers will be required to also point out how slavery benefited the slaves who learned personal skills that they could potentially use for their own benefit.
Christie in his response pointed out that the fire had been started with DeSantis’s bill, and yet now he was completely unwilling to take responsibility for the aftermath of the guidelines. He added that DeSantis was “uncomfortable” by the results.
Christie also argued that DeSantis was also proposing these guidelines in order to get political advantage and to manipulate. Christie further claimed that there were more important issues in the country to be dealt with than the issue of race.
