Woman Charged After Boyfriend Shot To Death But She Never Touched The Gun
(TruthandLiberty.com) – A tragedy can happen quickly when people fail to store guns properly. Just ask 28-year-old Marie Rose Ayala, the mother of three children. On May 26, police discovered Ayala performing CPR on her children’s father. At first, police believed 26-year-old Reggie Mabry had attempted suicide, but a hospital report showed someone had shot him in the back.
Detectives uncovered the mystery of the man’s passing after the couple’s 5-year-old told them his 2-year-old little brother had shot their dad by accident. Ayala admitted to police that the couple stored a Glock handgun in a backpack just three feet off the ground. The weapon was incorrectly stored and in easy reach of the 2-year-old, and the couple wasn’t legally allowed to own it.
Orange County Sheriff John Mina said a jury previously convicted the couple on drug charges and child neglect. They were out of jail and serving their time on probation. Prosecutors charged Ayala with manslaughter by culpable negligence, possessing a gun and ammunition as a convicted felon, and violating the terms of her probation. Mina stated Ayala is in jail for violating her probation and awaiting trial.
Tragically, a young child has to live the rest of his life knowing he killed his father, even if by accident. The mother of three faces 15 years just on a manslaughter charge if a jury convicts her.
According to the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence, 500 people die each year from accidental gunshot injuries. The organization said unsafe firearm storage leads to an increased risk of unintentional deaths.
